The Copper Coast Geopark awarded a "Green Card"

We are delighted that The Copper Coast Global Geopark retained its "Green Card" status at a meeting of the European Geoparks Network, on Wednesday 2nd September. The meeting was held in Rokua Global Geopark in Finland, attended by representatives of nearly all the European Geoparks.

18 European Geoparks were due for revalidation with 16, including The Burren and Cliffs of Moher, receiving Green Cards.
This means that we are approved for another four years as members of the Network, following a revalidation visit by two evaluators - one from Terra Vita Global Geopark, in Germany and the other from the Chinese Geological Survey.

At the same meeting 4 out of 11 new applicants were accepted into the Network, of which more details in due course. This brings the number of European Global Geoparks to 69.

The area was declared a European Geopark in 2001 and a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004. This geologically diverse area contains records of Palaeozoic volcanism and the last ice age. more

The Copper Coast is a stretch of the southern coast of Ireland in County Waterford. It is named for the historic metal-mining industry, the legacies of which now constitute a tourist attraction. more
