Tankardstown 3D Tour Overground   Tankardstown 3D Tour Underground

The mine and mine buildings last operated in the 1870s and the images captured underground are as the mine was left at that time. Extensive secondary copper mineralisation on the tunnel walls is all that has changed. The surface buildings suffered significant damage when the Cornish engines, which powered the pumps and lifting gear were removed and sold off. The current site was conserved in the late 1990s and the panoramic tour is of the conserved structures on the site.

Each panoramic tour is set to operate automatically around each of the surface and underground sites. You may disable this function and explore freely by successively right clicking on the * symbols in the panorama.

A total of 86 scans were made and a series of 33 panoramas for the surface works and 23 panoramas were made for the underground works. The 3D tour you will see is built on this data. Please allow time for the material to download as it will vary depending on your system.

This 3D Tour was produced by the Atlanterra project and was co funded by the European regional Development fund (ERDF) through the Atlantic Area programme 2007-2013 Interreg 4 B.

The area was declared a European Geopark in 2001 and a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004. This geologically diverse area contains records of Palaeozoic volcanism and the last ice age. more
